Art from the Breakthrough  Exhibit

Breakthrough is a series I HAD to paint. Our past experiences contribute to who we are. We can’t erase them. However, those same experiences do not have to define our future.

Someone asked me recently if I'm “OK.” He said my paintings were all sad. I laughed and said “they're really not.” For me, the process of painting these paintings was an emotional
release which was a vehicle to my breakthrough.

Painting this series was part of a healing process for me. In order to truly put it all behind me, I had to put it all on canvas. For those who are familiar with my previous work, you may not like it. You may not "get it." That's ok, but I had to "get rid of it." Needing to free myself on numerous levels, I did away with those expensive brushes I couldn't live without. Many of these paintings were done using paper towels and my fingers. Most are scenes, or snippets, from dreams I had during some very emotional periods in my life. They show a progression from the dark times to the light, the hopeless to the hopeful.
