Kim Valentine
The Beginning

I was born in a small town in Staten Island, NY. I spent my childhood with my parents and five brothers and sisters. I was number five in the bunch. As a kid, I taught myself to draw by copying the Sunday comics. I moved on to drawing models from pictures in magazines. A favorite relative, my Uncle Buster, would bring me art supplies and drawing books to help and encourage me. Art was always my favorite class in school.

Graphic Designer, 1990 - 2006

I graduated from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City with a degree in Advertising Design. During these 16 years, I was blessed to work with people who had much to teach me. I worked in the community relations office of a hospital, the marketing department of a newspaper, and had freelance clients in many different fields.

I was also blessed during this time with two beautiful children. My girls are, and always will be, my first priority. They encourage and inspire me daily.

During most of this time, however, I began experimenting in other forms of creative arts – poetry; sculpture; painting in oils, watercolors, acrylics – I wanted to try it all. Eventually my passion to create was enflamed and began to consume me. If I wasn’t making art, I was thinking about making art.

Today

Since my family’s relocation to North Carolina in 2006 I have decided to make my life’s passion a priority. I have set up a studio in my home where I spend many hours doing what I love…creating.

A few years ago I realized that whatever talent I might have was not my own. It was a gift from my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I hope to convey what God has done for me somehow in my art. I hope to honor Him with my creations.

"All children are artists. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up."
- Pablo Picasso
